Duck, Duck, Goose

Yesterday was beautiful.

At 55 degrees and overcast, it was markedly chillier than the 67 degrees our local meteorologists forecasted, but it was lovely all the same.

We spent most of the day outside, with our friends Annie and Silas, at the picturesque Clement Park. Clement Park is over the hill from Columbine High School, and is also the location of the Columbine Memorial. Although we didn't stop by the memorial, I can say with confidence that the location was perfectly selected. The park is gorgeous, even in the winter, and making a point of visiting the memorial is something I want to do in the near future.

Silas slept through most of our walk around the lake, and Maile's duck-feeding frenzy, but he sure did look sweet!

I wish I could put into words what it was like watching Maile feed ducks for the first time. Her face. Her exclamations and expressions. It was one of the most fun things I've witnessed as her mama. She was in seventh heaven.

After a week of being cooped up inside with the flu, I couldn't believe the change I witnessed in our girl. She was waving hello to everyone who passed, chatting up me and Annie, making friends with a wiry little dog named Rags (who delighted her with his tricks of sitting up like a prairie dog, and dancing), and jumping all the way back to the car. Little Miss Maile is such a "Colorado baby," as my parents like to say.

What could make being out in the fresh Mile High air even better

Ducks.

She told me so.

  3. I love that her bow perfectly matches her jacket! Fresh air is good for the soul. I need to remember this and get my kids outside more often. I've read that kids should spend time outside everyday.

    1. Hehe. Thanks, Meagan! I agree that fresh air is good for the soul. Sometimes, if we're having a particularly hard day -- even if it's 25 degrees outside -- I'll bundle us both up, and go on a short walk. It's amazing what it does for my mood!

  5. She is so darling! I love that last photo of her. It's so cute when they talk! It looks like she loved feeding the ducks! I am always amazed at how quickly Jax grows and the new things he is suddenly learning and doing. But it's not like it's "too fast" like I used to think it would be. It's so fun watching them learn new things. I would never want to go backward because every new thing is so much fun! She is so so cute. And her hair is the best!

    1. I agree, Ali! Sometimes I think I'd like her to go back to "this" age or "that" age, but when I really put some thought into it, I love watching her develop and learn. It truly is a joy! Thanks, girly!
